LaKenya Stone is an author, teacher, publisher, and business owner whose work centers African American Hoodoo, Conjure, rootwork, spiritual education, and Southern Gothic storytelling. Through books, articles, podcast episodes, courses, guides, and educational resources, she preserves cultural context, corrects misinformation, and makes complex subjects understandable without reducing their depth. Her work connects African American history, spiritual practice, material culture, and lived experience while keeping Hoodoo grounded in the culture that shaped it.
Writing, Teaching, and Publishing
My nonfiction and educational work examines African American Hoodoo, Conjure, rootwork, spiritual diagnosis, ancestor relationships, prayer, petitions, materials, spiritual conditions, and responsible practice. I develop work that helps readers understand what a practice does, what it does not do, how its parts relate to one another, and why cultural and historical context matters.
My Southern Gothic fiction explores family, faith, secrecy, grief, violence, power, rootwork, and spiritual consequence. Southern Fire Conjure houses my spiritual education and research, while Southern Fire Press publishes my fiction, nonfiction, and other written products. Altar Talk extends that work through spoken teaching and culturally grounded conversation.
